OPIOID REMEDIATION
Our opioid remediation campaigns have reached millions of people and helped fight the fentanyl epidemic, saving lives and improving health outcomes.
NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED CAMPAIGNS
NTI Upstream received three honors at the 8th Annual Shorty Awards in Los Angeles for its Safer Sacramento Fentanyl Awareness Campaign. The Shorty Awards is an international awards competition honoring the best work by brands, agencies, nonprofits, and individuals across digital and social platforms.
EDUCATING THE PUBLIC
In 2024, NTI Upstream received opioid remediation settlement funding from the Sacramento County Department of Health, Substance Use Prevention and Treatment division, with a directive to create content, messaging, and campaigns about the dangers of illicit fentanyl, opioid prevention and education, harm reduction education, and helping connect people with county treatment, recovery, and support services.
By leveraging the power of social and digital media, in addition to traditional media, we were able to connect with a diverse range of citizens throughout the county, encompassing all ages, races, gender identities, and ethnicities. Using county data, we developed campaigns that reach special populations, including adolescents, the elderly, the LGBTQ community, and homeless individuals.
Specifically, we ran numerous campaigns
National Fentanyl Awareness Day
National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day
International Overdose Awareness Day
Our general approach was grounded in science and conveyed through storytelling, allowing us to connect with audiences on an emotional level.
APPROACH
Our opioid remediation campaigns
Promoted prevention by educating audiences about the dangers of opioid use and substance use more generally, given the data on poly-substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
Decreased stigma associated with substance use and misuse, enhancing the willingness to seek and accept support and treatment.
Drove audiences to seek treatment for opioid use and substance use more generally. This included but was not limited to addiction services, recovery services mental health services, and harm reduction services.
Engaged the community in two-way conversation, sharing valuable information and meeting individuals where they were.

You Died From Fentanyl campaign, including social media content, billboards, and transit stop posters.

We produced a documentary blog series, The Ripple Effect, addressing the widespread harm that opioids and illicit fentanyl have had on communities and families in Sacramento County. We designed billboards and transit stop posters with QR codes to connect people directly with educational content and support services. We created campaign content for youth and young adults about the dangers of opioids, illicit fentanyl, and substance use more generally. This included messaging about harm reduction and breaking stigmas about mental health and treatment services. Lastly, we created content for those grieving the loss of a loved one to opioid use, including fentanyl overdose and poisoning. This content educates individuals about loss, grief, trauma, secondary trauma, and how and where to get help.
COMBINED CAMPAIGN PERFORMANCE
Every campaign we create is tailor-made to your audience and messaging needs. Perhaps your community needs to focus on prescription opiates, or fake pills designed to look like pharmaceutical pills, but really either laced or made with illicit fentanyl. Or perhaps you need to get the word out to younger audiences about the dangers of street drugs, or older adults who suffer from opiate addiction. Whatever the need, we can create the campaign.
